The Star of the Show

The University of Utah Health Salt Lake City Half Marathon takes runners through a setting filled with snow-capped peaks and contrasting spring blossoms on a scenic and slightly downhill 13.1 mile course. The course is certified by USA Track & Field (USATF) and sanctioned through the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). Divisions include open, masters and 18 age groups.

Starting off at the Olympic Legacy Bridge at the University of Utah, the site of the 2002 Winter Olympic Athlete Village, the gentle course works its way toward the base of the towering Wasatch Mountains. Next, runners travel through the Federal Heights neighborhood and the scenic 11th Avenue before dropping into downtown near Temple Square through Memory Grove. The route then snakes through Salt Lake’s legendary wide streets, passing by cozy neighborhoods and elegant estates on the way.

Finish off with a run through the gorgeous Sugar House and Liberty Park until culminating on 200 E between Library and Washington Squares. Here, the music is rocking and energy surging as crowds of enthusiastic spectators cheer on participants. You won’t want to miss the celebration of the thousands of lifetime achievements being created in the heart of Salt Lake City. Fun and excitement await all who attend!

Aid stations
The half marathon course will have 17 aid stations spaced approximately 1.3 to 1.6 miles apart. Each aid station will have a restroom facility, water and Gatorade products. GU Energy will also be providing energy gels along the way.

Medical support
Medical personnel will be available at the start line, finish area and throughout the course to cover minor medical issues. The medical tent is located at the finish line, and stationary first aid stations will be located at miles 6 and 10. In addition, each aid station will have access to immediate E.M.T. and ambulance services if needed.

Portable toilets
A large number of portable toilets will be available at the start and finish area and along the course near every aid station. Please DO NOT relieve yourself on either private or public property along the course.


The University of Utah Health Salt Lake City Half Marathon is open to all participants of age who are able to finish in 6 Hours and 30 Minutes. Participants wishing to complete their event within that timeframe will need to maintain a 29 minute/mile or faster pace. There will be NO early start for runners.

If you are still on the course after 3 hours and 15 minutes, keep in mind that the full marathoners may be coming in from behind you, and you may be asked to continue the run on the sidewalk adjacent to our course. SAG wagons will patrol the route providing support to these participants.

We also suggest that walkers and slower participants consider using a fanny pack that accommodates a water bottle and snacks.

The last mile of the course is a huge celebration filled with crowds of well-wishers and more energy than you thought possible! After crossing the finish line, participants receive their medal and can head into the refreshments area where water, Gatorade products, Creamies ice cream, Dole fruit cups, and other food for replenishment will be waiting.

Participants, as well as their families and friends, are invited to join the post-race festivities where live bands perform on the entertainment stage. Fun, interactive exhibits for adults and children as well as great food will all be part of the festivities to help celebrate and cheer on the athletes.
